DaBus - The Oahu Bus App App Reviews

Needs better interface and less periods of unavailability

The app itself seems as though it has never been upgraded since it first came out. Navigation can be a bit difficult as bus stops are not placed accurately on maps and looking for stops that are not near you can prove to be difficult unless you have the bus stop number. Even with the number, you are sometimes greeted with a message stating that the stop does not exist. Now… those could be easily overlooked if the app is able to consistently do what is promised. Unfortunately, it fails from the early evening onward. All stops pretty much displays that arrival time are not available. This continues well into the evening. The idea started off great but with lack of maintenance and regular improvements to the bus tracking system, it is a failure (for the app developers hired, TheBus, and the Honolulu Office of Transportation).

6:20 pm and no arrival information

Its 6:20 pm 10/13/2015 but you cant get the arrival information because theres none. Why have this app and its not working right. Fix it

Used to be a great application.

This app used to be amazing, up to date with everything. About 3 months ago, the app just stopped getting/giving any information other then showing what bus is available. No longer shows times... Which is the most important detail and why I used this app. It also doesnt show gps anymore. I didnt really care, because it never really worked in the first place. So whoever invented this app just stop caring and stopped doing any updates. Now its useless.

Meh

I have a love hate relationship with this app... It does help me get to the bus stop on time but I hate it when it says "Information not available. Try another stop" when it was just working a second ago

UNRELIABLE

This app is always having problems along with the bus company hea system. That too is also unreliable. I know this isnt the bus company but the bus is always either early, late, or really late. The bus has never always been on time.

So bad!

This app absolutely horrible! Almost unusable but sometimes it actually works. Most of the time says "Arrival time unavailable" when it was working the minutes just before that. It will often track the wrong bus and display false information then all of a sudden realize and move the arrival time 30 minutes back. If that isnt bad enough it is impossible to use. Fix it.

Does its Job but Often Crashes

Its a big help having this app, but it seems to not work a lot of the time. It often will say, "Arrival information is not available. Please try a different stop." Even when I try a different stop, it says the same thing. Please fix this. The app is useless without the bus arrival times. Also, the arrival times arent accurate.

Just like the public transit, this app is terrible

First of all, only half of this app even works properly. The other half is more of a guess if anything. Dont rely on the arrival times as they are almost always wrong. Also why hasnt this been updated in 3 years? Jeez.

PLS fix

A problem I face with this app everyday is that a lot of times, it wont work and will say that information isnt available and to try a different stop. Please fix this.

useless trash

once every blue moon it works. 90% of the time it results in "arrival information is not available. please try a different stop." yet ALL stops say that. oh, & most busses "have no GPS," so even more useless. busses never come according to the app if at all. our city & county seriously cant do ANYTHING right.

Terrible app paid for by tax payers

Only about 50% of this app functions correctly, and thats when its actually working!! It doesnt search for routes, arrival times are usually not available in the evenings. Terrible interface.

Use the alternative

This app is... Lame. Its definitely poorly designed. However, you dont need the app anyway. Use Google Maps. It has all the public transit information built in. Use the navigation mode and then select the bus icon for mode of transit. Presto! Your route will be mapped and you can adjust it by arrival or departure times. This app might be nice if you want to see entire route maps or schedules, but otherwise just use Google Maps. It much more robust. Remember, this is Hawaii. Chill, brah, enjoy the scenery and dont expect to get anywhere in a hurry.

Seriously needs an update

This app works fine, but needs a new UI redesign. Very complicated and confusing.

Inaccurate

Inaccurate af, waited 30min for a bus, it came and it was not in service. Now I have to wait an additional 50min because the bus that arrives at this stop goes on a 30min break.

Horribly unreliable

In the three years Ive used this app Ive had to contend with frequent lack of service, mis-reporting of information (buses supposed to be there which never show up), inaccuracy and buses not enabling there GPS. Assuming that the app is supposed to give you up-to-date information, the app is a FAIL. I recommend against this app. Google Maps does a better job!

Needs major work

The app is really hard to use and not helpful, and has no system map. Not useful for people visiting Honolulu.

Functional, but needs a fresh coat of paint.

As is perhaps indicative of Hawaii culture, the official app for TheBus serves its purpose—find your bus stop and it tells you when the next bus will arrive. The City and County of Honolulu expects that riders with smartphones will also take advantage of Google Maps, which natively integrates real-time data from the City and County. Behind the scenes, the City and County has been making improvements to arrival times through GPS integration on its buses. For all intents and purposes, the app does its job. That being said, the interface is dated. With the debut of the original iPhone 5 in 2012, the app still doesnt support the resolutions of the iPhone 5/5c/5s, much less the 6(s) and 6(s) plus. It would be nice to use an app that natively supports my iPhone 5s screen. Another point of contention which may be of discussion—the app utilizes informal, borderline-Pidgin verbiage, including "oh-Yea" (lowercase o, uppercase Y, no h). Although I understand the value of injecting some local lingo, I cant help but feel that an official or professional app should be a bit less casual. Maybe the City and County could consider creating a bilingual app with two settings: standard American English and Pidgin. Better yet, lets have integration for Hawaiian, Samoan, Tongan, Marshallese and Chuukese considering our islands population is quickly diversifying.

Love it but it need a few bug fixes or something

Ive been using this app for a year already and Thai beginning of the year its been acting up and not loading the bus times or always freezing and crashing. Much appreciated if this gets fixed as soon as possible

Needs a revamp, but workable.

This app was designed for the ollllld iPhones. But you can find routes, bus stops close to you and track busses so you know how long till they get to you. It was perfect for my day trip in Honolulu.

WORST APP!

This app is complete garbage. Its so INACCURATE! The bus days its coming in 3 minutes, I run my arse as fast as I can and then no bus when it hasnt even come. I wait for the next bus which is 22 minutes, and one came in 5...this app is all over the place!
